Quality water is critical to a healthy body. It’s particularly critical to avoiding dehydration in the dry airplane cabin. It’s necessary to maintain normal bodily functions. What exactly is quality water? Is it alkaline, structured, free of contaminants, free of heavy metals? All of the above. Is that guaranteed in the bottle water purchased at the airport or available on the plane? Not likely. The majority of water available on airplanes is purified municipal tap water. Lately, I have found myself feeling queasy after drinking the water provided on the plane. My solution is to stop drinking the water. That doesn’t mean shifting to the number sugary options available including seemingly healthy juices like orange, cranberry, and apple juice. Instead don’t leave home without a stainless steel hot/cold Hydroflask. While my preference is for glass portable water bottles, I have broken two on my travels despite them being encased in a protective sleeve. Stainless steel is light and very hard to break or damage. If your bags don’t have a convenient outer water bottle pocket, don’t forget to buy a carabiner so that you can easily attach your water bottle to your carry on luggage and access it. With your Hydroflask you can now fill it up with water from the water filters now increasingly available at airports, you can ask a coffee shop or restaurant to fill it with hot water, you can add trace minerals, alkalinizers, and structure the water with a portable water structuring device. If you are concerned about contaminants in the water available, you can also travel with a portable water filter. Traveling with your own water bottle not only gives you more options, it reduces waste and is good for you and the environment.
